The Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) in the National Assembly conducted an introductory visit to the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) today, Thursday, 10 September 2026.

The visit provided an opportunity for members of the Committee to learn more about SPA’s mandate, operations, ongoing projects and strategic priorities, while strengthening communication between the Authority and the National Assembly.

During the visit, the Committee received presentations on SPA’s role and responsibilities in managing, operating and developing the country’s ports and related maritime services. The presentations also covered the Authority’s ongoing activities, key projects and financial priorities.

A key focus of the visit was the upcoming Port Victoria Rehabilitation and Extension Project (PVREP), which is aimed at modernising and improving Port Victoria’s facilities and increasing its operational capacity. The Committee was briefed on the project’s objectives and expected benefits for the country.

During the course of the presentations, there were further discussions on matters relating to SPA’s operations, financial management, accountability and the continued development of Seychelles’ key port infrastructure. The visit was also highlighted by a short site visit at the Mahe Quay.

Today’s visit provided a valuable platform for the Committee and SPA management to exchange views and strengthen understanding of the Authority’s work especially in terms of financial management. It also highlighted the importance of collaboration, transparency and accountability in the management of public funds and resources.

Chairperson of the FPAC, Honourable Bernard Georges, highlighted that this was a promising visit, with the committee gaining a lot of insight on SPA. “It was a good meeting between the two parties and one which has shown to be very fruitful and positive. We hope that next time there will be much more progress for further discussions,” he emphasised.

SPA welcomed the visit, noting that continued engagement with the National Assembly and its committees helps promote greater understanding of its work and supports its commitment to good governance and the sustainable development of Seychelles’ maritime sector.
