Pilotage

The entrance channel into Port Victoria is relatively narrow with a few shallow spots. By law, vessels above 150 gross tonnage have to request the service of a pilot to navigate safely through the channel to enter the inner harbour. Pilots are provided by the SPA.

Pilots are transported to and from vessels entering and leaving port by pilot launches. SPA has in its fleet 2 pilot boats Zirondel and Payanke.

SPA generates revenue from pilotage dues paid by vessels as defined under the Harbour Dues Regulations.
