A fire safety training was held on Thursday 1 October on board a tuna fishing vessel which was at berth at the Commercial Port. The training was done conjointly between the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) in partnership with the Seychelles Fire and Rescue Services Agency (SFRSA) with the assistance of firefighters from Bataillon de Marins Pompiers from Marseilles, France.

It focused on essential firefighting techniques and procedures to be followed in the event of a fire occurring on board a vessel. Participants had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in identifying fire hazards and responding swiftly to an emergency using firefighting equipment effectively.

Conducted in a realistic maritime environment, the exercise highlighted the importance of readiness, teamwork and rapid response when dealing with fire emergencies at sea. Such initiatives also help to strengthen the preparedness of the authority and its partners, as well as help to promote safety and effective emergency response.
